Bhopal: Dry lightning occurring in MP; Met office cautions locals against multi-layer clouds in daytime

Total 32 people died due to lightning in MP in last couple of days

Meteorological department has warned the people for dry lightning which is occurring due to multi-layer clouds without rain.

Events like dry lightning are being witnessed over Bhopal, Vidisha, Raisen, Sehore, Harda, Dewas, Khandwa, Tikamgarh, Shajapur, Mandsaur, Neemuch, Jabalpur, Mandla, Datia, Bhind &Gwalior at present.

Meteorological department has issued advisory for public to be alert and safe.

Meteorological department senior scientist Ved Prakash Singh said, “When it rains, lightning is clearly visible so people have time to go at safer place. But now a days trend of dry lightening prevails. It does not rain and it happens. In night, it is visible but in day time it is not visible. So it is difficult for public to be alert. But one thing is clear if there is multi-layer clouds in day time, so there is chances of dry lightening and they should be alert.”

Heavy rain at one place even after forecast for heavy rain at many place, dry lightening etc are happening just because of climate change, Ved Prakash added.

In last couple of days, as many as 32 persons died due to lightning in Madhya Pradesh, according to meteorological department.

According to Met Office, heavy thundershowers with lightning are likely to continue over Umaria, Shahdol, Anuppur, Dindori, Balaghat, Katni & Damoh till early morning hours.

Light Thunderstorms with lightning are likely to continue over Sheopur Kalan, Shivpuri, adjoining parts of Guna, Agar, Rajgarh, Neemuch, Mandsaur/ Gandhi Sagar Dam, Ujjain/ Mahakaleshwar, Bhind, Ratlam/ Dholawad, Shajapur & adjoining parts of Sehore in forenoon hours.
