AIIMS Bhopal Conducts First Contact Programme for IGNOU Geriatric Medicine Students

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): AIIMS Bhopal conducted the first spell of the contact programme for students enrolled in the Post Graduate Diploma in Geriatric Medicine (PGDGM) offered by Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU).

The programme was designed to provide comprehensive academic learning and multidisciplinary clinical exposure in geriatric healthcare. 

Participants attended academic lectures, bedside clinical demonstrations, case discussions and observational clinical postings across various departments of AIIMS Bhopal.

In the Department of Orthopaedics, Dr Prateek Behera, Additional Professor, conducted clinical examination demonstrations, followed by an academic session by Dr Manish Dwivedi, Additional Professor, on musculoskeletal disorders in older adults.

The General Medicine sessions included bedside case discussions in Medicine Ward-3 under the guidance of Dr Shubham, Senior Resident (Geriatric Unit), Dr Yasmee, Associate Professor, and Dr M Sukumar, Associate Professor.

An academic lecture was also delivered by Dr Akash Pawar, Assistant Professor. Participants received additional exposure to the Geriatric Unit under the supervision of Dr Sukumar.

In the Department of Community and Family Medicine, sessions were conducted by Dr Ananthan and Dr Aniket, Senior Residents, under the guidance of Prof Abhijit P. Pakhare, focusing on community-based geriatric care.

Participants also attended clinical postings in the Psychiatry OPD under Dr Tanmay Joshi, Dentistry OPD under Dr Gunjan Chouksey, and the Department of Dermatology under Dr Jerene Mathews, gaining multidisciplinary exposure to the management of elderly patients.

A total of 12 participants from diverse professional backgrounds attended the programme, promoting interdisciplinary learning and peer interaction.
