Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): A newly constructed road built at a cost of Rs 104 crore in Sidhi district’s Rampur Naikin area was damaged after heavy rain for the past two days.
A large portion of the Khaira-Dithoura road was washed away due to strong water flow, raising questions over the quality of construction and drainage arrangements.
The road was constructed around six months ago, but reportedly did not have proper drains for water discharge. With no adequate drainage system, rainwater flowed over the road and washed away a major section during the first heavy spell of rain.
Meanwhile, the Bhawarsen Pahad route, which connects more than two dozen villages in the Khaddi area, has also been blocked after soil and large stones fell from the hills onto the road.
The blockage has disrupted more than a dozen night buses operating between Rewa, Satna and Rampur Naikin.
According to local residents, the newly constructed route had reduced the distance to Rampur Naikin by nearly 30 km.
Repair work begins
Tehsildar Ashish Mishra said that arrangements for drainage were made after the administration received information about the damage. Repair work on the affected stretch has also been started to restore traffic at the earliest.
