Maruti Suzuki Jimny Joins ITBP Fleet: 60 Units Delivered for Tough Terrain Operations

Maruti Suzuki has officially delivered 60 Jimny SUVs to the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), marking the model’s debut in the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) fleet. These off-road-capable vehicles will be deployed in the challenging terrains of Leh-Ladakh and Arunachal Pradesh to support border patrol operations. The handover ceremony took place at the ITBP Headquarters in New Delhi, attended by senior officials, including Additional Director General (HQ) Abdul Ghani Mir (IPS) from ITBP and Maruti Suzuki’s Senior Executive Officer for Marketing & Sales, Partho Banerjee.

The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) operates in some of India’s most difficult terrains, including the high-altitude Himalayan regions, where temperatures can drop to -45 degrees Celsius in winter. Patrolling through snow-covered mountains, glaciers, and rugged landscapes requires tough and reliable vehicles. The Maruti Suzuki Jimny, known for its strong off-road performance, is well-equipped to handle these extreme conditions. These newly inducted SUVs will assist ITBP personnel in border surveillance, troop movement, and other operational duties in remote and challenging areas.

Built for tough terrains, the Jimny 5-door is equipped with a ladder-frame chassis and ALLGRIP PRO (4x4) technology, ensuring strong off-road capabilities. Its boxy design enhances visibility, helping drivers navigate difficult landscapes with confidence. Manufactured exclusively at Maruti Suzuki’s Gurugram plant in Haryana, the Jimny is exported to nearly 100 countries. In a recent milestone, Maruti Suzuki began shipping the Jimny 5-door to Japan, further strengthening India’s position as a key global manufacturing hub under the Make-in-India initiative.
