G7 summit in Japan: PM Modi to meet Ukraine Prez Volodymyr Zelensky for the 1st time after war
The Modi-Zelensky meeting which is scheduled shortly marks their first in-person interaction after the Russia-Ukraine conflict began last year.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine are set to have a crucial meeting in Hiroshima, Japan during the G7 Summit. This encounter holds immense significance as it will be their first face-to-face interaction since the commencement of the Russia-Ukraine conflict last year.
During his presence at the G7 summit in Japan, Prime Minister Modi will make use of this opportunity to interact with a diverse group of global leaders and address urgent global concerns.
In their discussions, PM Modi and President Zelensky are anticipated to address the ongoing situation in Ukraine and seek opportunities for enhanced collaboration. The talks are expected to prioritize diplomatic approaches to de-escalate tensions and reinstate stability in the region.
During the SCO Summit in Samarkand last year, Indian PM Modi had a meeting with Russian President Putin. In their discussion, PM Modi emphasized the importance of resolving the ongoing conflict and conveyed to Putin that "This is not an era of war." This statement has since been echoed by other world leaders.
PM Modi's visit to Japan comes in view of the G7 Summit
PM Modi on Friday embarked on a six-day visit to Japan, Papua New Guinea and Australia to attend three key multilateral summits, including that of the G7. He would unveil a statue of Mahatma Gandhi at Hiroshima during the visit while paying tribute to the freedom fighter and Indian leader and his Ahimsa ideology.
While leaving for Japan's Hiroshima, the Prime Minister in a statement said, "I will leave for Hiroshima, Japan to attend the G7 Summit under the Japanese Presidency at the invitation of Fumio Kishida, Prime Minister of Japan."
