‘False And Baseless’: Iran Rejects Trump’s Ceasefire Claim, Warns Over Strait Of Hormuz Control
Iran dismissed Donald Trump’s claim that it sought a ceasefire, calling it false. Tehran said no such request was made. The IRGC also asserted full control over the Strait of Hormuz, warning against external interference. The developments come amid rising tensions, raising concerns over global oil supply and energy security for import-dependent countries like India.
Iran has firmly rejected claims by Donald Trump that it sought a ceasefire, calling the statement “false and baseless” amid rising tensions between the two countries. Tehran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei said no such request had been made, directly countering remarks from Washington. The clarification comes shortly after Trump claimed on his Truth Social platform that Iran’s president was seeking a ceasefire ahead of his address to the American people.
In his post, Trump referred to “Iran’s new regime president,” despite no change in Iran’s leadership, and suggested that any ceasefire would depend on the Strait of Hormuz being “open, free, and clear.” He also issued a strong warning, stating the US would continue aggressive action otherwise.
Meanwhile, Iran struck a defiant tone. The country’s paramilitary force, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, asserted that the Strait of Hormuz remains firmly under its control. In a strongly worded statement, the IRGC warned that the crucial waterway would not be opened to “enemies” and remains under Iran’s full authority.
Adding to the hardline stance, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, in an interview with Al Jazeera, indicated that Tehran is prepared to continue resisting pressure. “You cannot speak to the people of Iran in the language of threats and deadlines,” he said, adding that Iran would not set any timeline for defending itself.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most critical oil transit routes, handling a significant share of global crude shipments. Any disruption in the region could have serious implications for global energy markets, particularly for countries like India that rely heavily on oil imports.
With both sides taking firm positions, the situation underscores growing geopolitical strain and raises fresh concerns over regional stability and energy security.
