Ottawa: An Indian student has been found dead under mysterious circumstances in Canada's Ottawa. The deceased has been identified as Vanshika Saini, the 21-year-old daughter of an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) functionary from Punjab's Dera Bassi.
Saini was the daughter of AAP MLA Kuljit Singh Randhawa's aide Davinder Saini. She was studying higher education in Ottawa for the past two and a half years, reported The Times of India.
The Indian Embassy in Canada expressed grief over the death of the Indian student. The embassy said that the matter is currently under investigation.
"We are deeply saddened to be informed of the death of Ms. Vanshika, student from India in Ottawa. The matter has been taken up with concerned authorities and the cause is under investigation as per local police. We are in close contact with the bereaved kin and local community associations to provide all possible assistance," the Embassy said.

Saini had moved to Canada after completing Class XII, reported TOI citing sources. She enrolled in a two-year diploma course in Canada. As per the media house, Saini had finished her final exams on April 18 and started working part-time.

On April 22, she left home for work but did not return. Her phone was also switched off. Saini was scheduled to appear for her IELTS exam. However, her body was recovered on April 26 from a beach in Ottawa. The exact cause of her death is not known. However, her family alleged foul play in Saini's death.
A detailed investigation has been launched into the matter.
