University teams from China are preparing Robots for the upcoming inaugural World Humanoid Robot Games in Beijing. These AI-powered teams from China and abroad are training at the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics speed skating venue. The first World Humanoid Robot Games will be played between August 14 to 17.
Thirty teams from countries including the United States, Brazil, Germany, and Portugal will compete in fully autonomous football matches. The teams will consist of 5 robo players. The Shanhai Team from China Agricultural University, runners-up at June’s RoboCup in Brazil, was among those training on Monday.
The videos from the preparations were widely shared on social media platforms. "Humanoid robots train for the first World Humanoid Robot Games taking place in Beijing, as part of an effort to push the boundaries of AI and robotics through sport, " Reuters shared on X.

Powered by AI and equipped with visual sensors, the robots can locate the ball, move across the pitch, and recover after falling. Most teams are using Chinese-made robots, with each group programming their decision-making systems.
Earlier on June 30, @TheHumanoidHub shared another video on X. The caption of the video reads, "Four teams of humanoid robots went head-to-head in China’s first 3-on-3 soccer matches. Booster T1 robots were programmed by four university teams to play fully autonomously. The event served as a preview of the upcoming World Humanoid Robot Games, set for August in Beijing."

The annual AI conference was a delight for tech enthusiasts as a variety of robots were showcased, including humanoid structures to backflipping dogs.
