A professor in Bihar has returned his salary of thirty-three years and nine months to the college. He said, "There's no one to teach, so what's the salary for?" The name of the professor is Lallan Kumar, who has been an assistant professor of Hindi at Nitishwar College in Muzaffarpur. He has returned his 33-month salary to the registrar of BR Ambedkar Bihar University (BRABU).
Kumar has returned his payment as students did not turn up in the class for the last 33 months.
"My conscience does not allow me to take a salary without teaching. Even during online classes (during the pandemic), there were only a handful of students present for Hindi classes. If I take a salary without teaching for five years, it would be academic death for me," Kumar told to the press.
Kumar also said that he has been looking for a transfer for years now. He also said that his name was removed from the transfer list many times.
"When I'd joined, I was not posted to a college where I could teach postgraduate classes. Those with lower ranks (in the selection process) got those postings. Here, the students never show up," the professor earlier told NDTV.
