Yamuna Riverbank In Agra To Get A Natural Makeover, CM Yogi Adityanath Govt To Develop A Grand 'River Front Park' At A Cost Of ₹3.46 crore

Agra, August 06: The Yogi Government is continuously taking historic steps towards the development of tourism, environmental conservation and urban infrastructure in the state. In this series, major preparations have now begun to make the banks of the Yamuna River in the Taj city beautiful, pollution-free and more useful. A new and grand park is being developed along the Yamuna riverbank (Yamuna Bank Side) from Jhalkari Bai Chauraha to near Vedant Temple in Agra.

This initiative of the Yogi Government will provide residents and tourists with a world-class and modern 'Green Zone'. The foundation stone of this ambitious project was laid by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on July 25, 2026.

This ambitious project, which will transform the appearance of the Yamuna riverbank, is being developed under the AMRUT 2.0 scheme at a cost of Rs 3.46 crore. This substantial allocation will be used to transform the undeveloped and garbage-strewn area into a well-planned, green park equipped with modern amenities.

Under the scheme, a beautiful pathway measuring 1,500 metres in length and 1.5 metres in width, a 200-square-metre open gym, fountains, attractive lighting and benches for seating will be developed. In addition, a 300-square-metre open-air amphitheatre with a seating capacity of 100 to 150 people will be constructed for small cultural programmes, designed with red sandstone seating.

For the convenience of visitors, parking for 200 vehicles and sturdy fencing along a 1,500-metre stretch will also be provided.

The Yogi Government is placing special emphasis on river conservation (River Front Development). The garbage present at the site will be removed and transported to a designated landfill, while the polluted area will be covered with phytoremediation species. To enhance the view, a 'Visual Corridor' towards the Taj Mahal has been kept open.

Dense plantation of species such as Cassia biflora, Bougainvillea, Nerium oleander, Palm and Baby Golden will be undertaken to improve the environment. Ornamental plants will be cultivated on the nearby agricultural land, which will provide financial support for the maintenance of this project.

Providing detailed information about the scheme, Executive Engineer Arvind Kumar Srivastava stated, "In line with the intention of the state government, construction of this grand park along the Yamuna riverbank under the AMRUT 2.0 scheme will move forward rapidly. Being developed at a cost of Rs 3.46 crore, this park will provide city residents with a safe, clean and natural space for morning walks, yoga and children's play. Our focus is to restore environmental balance through dense plantation and develop the river front as a major tourist attraction."
