India prevail over Sri Lanka in a high-scoring thriller
Batting first at the D.Y Patil Stadium, India, led by Sachin Tendulkar, piled on a daunting 223 as Gurkeerat Singh (44), Stuart Binny (68), Yuvraj (31) and Yusuf Pathan (56) picked the bones out of Sri Lanka's bowling unit. In response, Sri Lanka's skipper Kumar Sangakkara was the only member from their side to make a half-century but there were contributions from Jeevan Mendis and Asela Gunaratne.
Despite that, they fell five runs short and were stopped by India at 218/9. Irfan took three wickets, while Dhawal Kulkarni, Abhimanyu Mithun and Vinay Kumar snared two wickets each.
