'They Cannot Do 100 Points Already...': Pep Guardiola Pokes Fun At Premier League Table Toppers Liverpool

Manchester City's coach Pep Guardiola has taken a curious swipe at Liverpool, claiming that Liverpool will fall short of Manchester City's record 100-point Premier League season. 

With Liverpool currently on 57 points and 14 games remaining, they can only reach a maximum of 99 points, narrowly missing Manchester City's 2017-18 benchmark. Liverpool's 2-2 draw with Everton has mathematically ruled out their chances of breaking Manchester City's 100-point Premier League record. 

In a pre-match press conference before facing Newcastle United, Pep Guardiola acknowledged the rising competitiveness of the Premier League, citing the overall improvement of teams in recent seasons. He also took the opportunity to note that Liverpool, following their draw with Everton, can no longer reach the 100-point mark this season.

“Unbelievable and it’s true. The [Premier League] teams are much, much, much better in all departments. The people prepare so well. These are the standards [that] we [have] dictated." “So Liverpool, have you seen Liverpool this season? Cannot do 100 points already. Definitely cannot. 99, but not 100. And look at the season they have done" said Guardiola.

Manchester City's Stunning Downfall: A Season to Forget

Manchester City's reign as Premier League champions is all but over, with the team's bid for a fifth consecutive title lying in tatters. A combination of injuries, defensive frailties, midfield struggles, and tactical tinkering has led to a dramatic decline in form, leaving City 16 points adrift of leaders Liverpool.
