Lucknow SuperGiants announces Rishabh Pant as their new captain for IPL 2025. The franchise bought him for a record-breaking ₹27 crore during the 2025 IPL mega auction in Jeddah. Pant will be the second captain after KL Rahul to lead Lucknow SuperGiants. So far, LSG has made it to the playoffs twice in their four IPL seasons so far.
In an exclusive chat with Star Sports, Pant spoke about his admiration for MS Dhoni, calling him a mentor and quoting Dhoni’s famous words: "Take care of the process, and the results will follow." Pant said he will keep this advice in mind as he leads the team.
KL Rahul was the captain of the Lucknow until IPL 2024. In the last four seasons, he successfully led the team to qualify for the playoffs twice. However, there was a rift between KL Rahul and team owner Sanjiv Goenka, which led to discussions about Rahul's potential exclusion from the team ahead of the mega auction.
Rishabh Pant's IPL career so far
Pant, 27, has had an impressive IPL career so far, playing 111 matches for his former team Delhi Capitals (DC). He has scored 3,284 runs at an average of 35.31 and a strike rate of 148.93, including one century and 31 fifties. As a wicketkeeper, he has 98 dismissals to his name.
