Kolkata: Former Team India captain Sourav Ganguly likes to keep one and all guessing. On Wednesday, Ganguly came up with a cryptic tweet saying that he is about to start something that he feels will probably help a lot of people.
“2022 marks the 30th year since the start of my journey with cricket in 1992. Since then cricket has given me a lot. Most importantly, it has given me the support of all of you. I want to thank every single person who has been a part of the journey, supported me, and helped me reach where I am today. Today, I am planning to start something that I feel will probably help a lot of people. I hope you will continue with your support as I enter this chapter of my life,” Ganguly tweeted.
In no time the tweet had triggered the buzz that Ganguly had resigned from the post of BCCI president; however, BCCI secretary Jay Shah scotched the media reports in no time.
Responding to the buzz, Shah told ANI: "The rumours doing the rounds about Mr Sourav Ganguly stepping down from the post of BCCI President are factually incorrect. We have some exciting times in the form of media rights coming up and my colleagues and I are completely focused on the upcoming opportunity and safeguarding the interest of Indian cricket."
Ganguly has been the president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India since 2019.
The former cricketer has been basking in the political arc lights ever since he hosted a dinner for Union Home Minister Amit Shah during his recent visit to Kolkata. Lest the gesture is misconstrued, Ganguly deftly made amends the next day while inaugurating a private hospital and made it a point to praise Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
"Our honourable Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is a person very close to me," he told reporters.
Finally, Ganguly laid the speculation to rest by clarifying that he has launched an ‘online educational application’ and the tweet was to intended to promote his app.
