Ravichandran Ashwin, who was part of the Chennai Super Kings in the previous edition of the IPL, will not only be part of the Indian Premier League from the next season. The cricket took to social media and announced while thanking IPL franchises he has played over the years and the BCCI.
He worte," Special day and hence a special beginning. They say every ending will have a new start, my time as an IPL cricketer comes to a close today, but my time as an explorer of the game around various leagues begins today. Would like to thank all the franchisees for all the wonderful memories and relationships over the years and most importantly the @IPLand the @BCCI for what they have given me until now. Look forward to enjoying and making the most of what’s ahead of me "
R Ashwin's IPL career
The 38-year-old, who retired from international cricket last year, was bought for ₹9.75 crore in the mega auction before the 2025 season. It was a homecoming of sorts for the Chennai-based player, who earlier turned up for CSK from 2009 to 2015.
Before returning to CSK, the off spinner played for the now-defunct Rising Pune Super Giant and the then Kings XI Punjab (currently Punjab Kings) in 2018. He also played for Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals.
Last season, Ashwin played nine games in the season gone by, picking up just seven wickets in a largely disappointing season for the team as it finished bottom of the heap with four wins and 10 losses.
Ashwin, one of the greats of the premier T20 competition in the world, took 187 wickets in the tournament's history, ending his career as the fifth-highest wicket-taker while making the seventh-highest appearances in the competition (221), across 16 seasons for five different teams. Ashwin was also a handy contributor with the bat, scoring 833 runs, which included a fifty.
