Abhimanyu Easwaran’s father has shared details of a reassuring conversation between the India opener and head coach Gautam Gambhir during the recently concluded England Test series. Speaking on Vickey Lalwani’s YouTube channel, he said Gambhir personally told Easwaran, “You’re doing the right things. You’ll get your turn and a long run. I’m not the one to push you out after 1-2 matches.”
According to him, Gambhir, along with the rest of the Indian coaching staff, assured Easwaran that his patience and hard work would be rewarded. “The entire coaching team assured him he’ll get his due,” he said, highlighting that the team management values consistency and is willing to give players time to settle once they get their opportunity.
Easwaran, who has been a consistent performer in domestic cricket and for India A, was named in the Indian squad for the five-Test home series against England earlier this year. However, despite being part of the squad for the entire series, he did not feature in the playing XI in any of the matches.
While his wait for a Test debut continues, the backing from Gambhir and the coaching group appears to have given Easwaran the confidence to keep pushing forward. With India’s packed calendar ahead, including overseas tours and home assignments, the 29-year-old will be hoping that his turn comes sooner rather than later.
'Abhi was pissed off because he wasn’t picked'- Abhimanyu Easwaran's father
Abhimanyu Easwaran’s father has opened up about his son’s emotions during the recently concluded England Test series, where the opener was part of India’s squad but did not make the playing XI in any of the five matches. Speaking to Vickey Lalwani, he revealed that Easwaran was understandably upset about missing out on a debut despite being in the squad.
“Abhi was pissed off because he wasn’t picked. When I called, he said, ‘Dad, I still haven’t found a place,’” his father recalled. He added that while the snub disturbed him, Easwaran maintained a mature perspective. “He said, ‘I’ve lived my dream for 23 years, not getting picked for 1-2 games won’t shatter that.’”
Easwaran, a prolific run-scorer in domestic cricket and a regular performer for India A, had been looking forward to his opportunity at the highest level. Although his wait for a Test debut continues, his father’s words reflect the resilience and patience that the 29-year-old continues to carry as he pursues his place in the Indian playing XI.
