Nick Kyrgios' ex-girlfriend, Chiara Passari recently spoke about the alleged assault on her by the temperamental Australian tennis star and thanked fand for the support.

The Wimbledon 2022 quarterfinalist Nick Kyrgios will appear in court in Australia next month in relation to an allegation of common assault, authorities said on Tuesday.

According to the police, the matter follows an incident in December last year which Kyrgios' barrister says was "in the context of a domestic relationship".

Kyrgios will appear at the Australia Capital Territory Magistrates' Court on August 2.

The tennis star and Passari started dating in July 2020 but broke up last year.

Passari, said she first reported the alleged assault to police in Canberra in December.

In response to an Instagram comment defending her, Ms Passari wrote: "Thank you. Finally, someone's smart enough to understand how the justice system works."

Kyrgios practiced at the All England Club on Tuesday, and was confirmed to play his match against Cristian Garin of Chile on Wednesday.

"While Mr. Kyrgios is committed to addressing any and all allegations once clear, taking the matter seriously does not warrant any misreading of the process Mr. Kyrgios is required to follow," attorney Pierre Johannessen wrote in a statement emailed to the media.

Johannessen wrote that "the allegations are not considered as fact" by the court, and Kyrgios is not "considered charged" with an offense until a first appearance in court.
