England fast bowler Brydon Carse is under investigation after he was reportedly involved in an incident at a nightclub in Derby on Saturday. A video is going viral on social media in which it can be seen that the England pacer is being taken by the police while in handcuffs from the nightclub after the incident occurred.
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed that it is looking into the matter as the videos shared on social media showed Carse in handcuffs as he was taken away from a club by four police officers. He was reportedly detained but not arrested and was later released without charge.
Carse was reportedly with England teammate Matthew Potts at the time. He was not on England duty when the incident took place and is expected to join the England squad on Monday ahead of the second Test against Pakistan.
ECB Confirms Investigation
The ECB said it was aware of the reported incident and had started an investigation.
"We are aware of an incident which is reported to have taken place in Derby last night, and are currently investigating," the ECB said in a statement.
The board added that it would provide more information when possible.
England's Off-Field Problems
The investigation comes just days after England Test captain Joe Root called on his players to be good role models both on and off the field.
Root said England must represent the country in the best possible way and learn from some of the problems that have affected the team in recent times.
England have faced several off-field issues over the past year. These included an incident involving Harry Brook and a nightclub bouncer in Wellington and criticism over the team's drinking during the Ashes tour of Australia.
More recently, Ben Stokes broke a team curfew during the summer. The period of turmoil was followed by England losing 2-1 to New Zealand and Stokes later announcing his international retirement and Brendon McCullum being removed as Test coach.
Despite these problems, Root recently decided to remove the midnight curfew for the team.

The latest incident also comes after Carse served a three-month suspension from cricket in 2024 for historic betting offences.
Carse was banned after placing 303 bets on cricket matches between 2017 and 2019. He was not involved in any of the matches on which he bet.
Carse, who was born in South Africa, remains part of England's squad for the second Test against Pakistan with the ECB investigation now underway.
