BBL 2024-25: Will Sutherland & Fergus O'Neil Banned For Stepping In Danger Zone, Setting Record In Cricket History (VIDEO)

Big Bash League witnessed a unique and unusual moment during the match between the Melbourne Renegades and Brisbane Heat. Two bowlers from the same team were banned for stepping into the danger zone while bowling.

Will Sutherland and Fergus O’Neil, bowlers for the Melbourne Renegades, were prohibited from bowling by umpire Donovan Koch for stepping into the "danger area" of the pitch, even after receiving warnings. These incidents occurred during Brisbane Heat’s innings.

In the 12th over, Sutherland was banned after Matthew Renshaw hit three consecutive sixes, ignoring earlier warnings. Similarly, O’Neil was banned in the 16th over with three balls remaining in his spell for the same issue. This marked the first time in cricket history where two bowlers from the same team were banned for the same reason.

Melbourne Renegades beat Brisbane Heat by 3 wickets

Despite the drama, Melbourne Renegades managed to beat Brisbane Heat by 3 wickets. After winning the toss and choosing to field, the Renegades conceded a strong total of 196/4 by Brisbane Heat. 

Jack Wood scored 45 off 27 balls, Matthew Renshaw made 40 off 22, and Tom Alsop remained unbeaten with 42 runs. Adam Zampa and Callum Stow took two wickets each for the Renegades.

In response, the Renegades chased the target comfortably, thanks to a brilliant knock of 95 off 46 balls by Jake Fraser-McGurk. They secured the win with 12 balls to spare. For Brisbane Heat, Spencer Johnson, Paul Walter, and Michael Neser took two wickets each, while Xavier Bartlett chipped in with one.
