Pakistan star batter Babar Azam left fans infuriated with his 90-ball 64 in the Champions Trophy 2025 opener against New Zealand on Wednesday at the National Stadium in Karachi. As a result, a fan was seen screaming 'Babar ko team se nikaalo' in a video that went viral on social media.
The Lahore-born cricketer, who opened the innings on Wednesday, failed to get into any rhythm into his innings in the first ten overs, especially with the hosts chasing down a daunting 321. The Men in Green found themselves teetering at 22-2 in 10 overs, leaving themselves quite far behind in the run-chase, making the task even steeper moving forward. Babar was eventually dismissed by Black Caps skipper Mitchell Santner in the 34th over, dashing any hopes of Pakistan victory.
New Zealand eventually won by 60 runs.
In a video shared by Pakistan journalist Imran Siddique after the match, the fan screamed:
"Mujhe maar do, Babar ko team se nikaalo." (Kill me, Drop Babar out of the side)
More trouble for Pakistan ahead of high-voltage clash against Team India
With the Men in Green set to face arch-rivals Team India on February 23 in Dubai, they have reportedly lost Fakhar Zaman due to a back injury. Although Zaman batted, he looked in discomfort due to the injury he sustained while fielding in the first over when New Zealand were batting.
The two sides were also the finalists in the previous Champions Trophy and Pakistan had beaten India convincingly to seal their maiden title.
