Pune's Infrastructure Criticised As Video Of Blind Woman Goes Viral: 'How Is She Supposed To Walk?' | Video Screengrab
Pune City Life, a social media page providing city updates, recently shared a video spotlighting a blind woman navigating the Ramwadi-Viman Nagar Road in Kalyani Nagar. The footage starkly revealed the absence of essential features like well-maintained roads and pedestrian paths.
"How is she supposed to walk here? No right to walk?," read the caption. "A resident of Kalyani Nagar has sent us this video. The absence of basic amenities like footpaths is forcing senior citizens and divyang persons to walk in the middle of the road, risking their life. It is disheartening to see citizens have to tirelessly follow up for basic necessities," it further read.
This viral video triggered widespread criticism of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) on social media, particularly addressing the plight faced by the blind woman.
One user expressed, "It’s almost everywhere across the city; people can’t walk or ride bicycles due to inadequate infrastructure."
Another commented, "Pune is the worst city in terms of planning and infrastructure."
Amidst growing frustration, another user wrote, "Pune’s administration is broken. There is no one answerable and accountable. The city growing so rapidly and contributing so much in taxes but no leader is interested in resolving basic issues to ease the lives of Punekars. Sad state of affairs."
