In good news for patrons of Pune's iconic Goodluck Café, the Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued an order to revoke the suspension of its license after a re-inspection found that the eatery had complied with general hygienic and sanitary practices.
"We found that the restaurant had met the compliance standards as per Schedule 4 of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI),” said Suresh Annapure, Joint Commissioner, FDA, Pune Division.
Schedule 4 of FSSAI outlines the requirements for maintaining a safe and hygienic environment for food handling, processing, storage, and distribution, ensuring food safety and public health.
The food regulatory body uses the Schedule 4 guidelines to conduct inspections and ensure compliance by food businesses. It is critical for maintaining food safety standards and protecting consumers from food-borne illnesses.
This comes after the FDA had temporarily suspended the license of Goodluck Café after a glass shard was found in its signature dish: the bun maska.
Customer Akash Jalagi said, "When my wife took a bite, she felt a hard and transparent substance in her mouth. Initially, we thought it was ice, but upon checking, we realised it was glass."
When the eatery's owner, Kasim Irani, was contacted, he clarified, "The glass piece was found in the bread, which we source from an external bakery. We have informed the supplier and instructed them to take immediate precautions to prevent such incidents in the future."
