Not long ago, Pune was a popular destination for holidays, known for its cool climate year-round. However, over the years, the city has expanded, and its population has exploded. Now, much like Mumbai and Delhi, Pune's air quality has deteriorated significantly, leading to various health issues. This has largely been attributed to ongoing construction activities in and around the city.
An X (formerly Twitter) user took to the microblogging site on Friday and lamented about the same. He wrote, "Weekend at home? No cough. Monday at school? Allergic cough kicks in like clockwork. Pune’s air isn’t air anymore, it’s a construction disaster... Maybe I should thank the builders for the free lung training programme. Or just invoice Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) for the nebulizers."
Commenting on his post, several netizens complained of coughs and sore throats due to the construction activities.
"Redevelopment, digging and construction activities in Pune 4 (Deccan Gymkhana Area) are causing air and dust pollution, resulting in persistent cough and breathing issues. And there is noise pollution as well," one user wrote.

Another user commented, "My almost two-year-old is constantly struggling with a cough from last month! All because of Pune’s dusty air .. just a couple of days in Bangalore and his cough has reduced substantially. As a kid who is born and brought up in Pune, it’s difficult to accept that Pune is becoming unliveable .. slowly but surely."
"Down with severe throat infection and cold since yesterday, Pune city's air is slow poison," a third user stated.
