As temperatures send chills down Pune residents' spines, even animals in the city are majorly affected. Therefore, the Rajiv Gandhi Zoological Park and Wildlife Research Centre at Katraj has made arrangements to keep its animals warm.

With temperatures dipping sharply in Pune, the zoo authorities have taken proactive steps to shield their animals from the harsh cold. The zoo administration has introduced measures like installing heaters, providing dry grass, and using blankets to ensure the animals remain warm.

Different provisions for heating have been made for animals in enclosures as well as those in open-air exhibits, with special attention given to reptiles, according to officials.
Heaters have been set up in the enclosures of tigers and lions, while reptiles are being kept warm with heat lamps, dry grass, and blankets. These arrangements have been made to protect approximately 430 animals from the biting winter chill.
Speaking about the initiative, Sujita Suryavanshi Patil, Deputy Director of the zoo, said, "Providing adequate warmth and maintaining proper living conditions for the animals during winter is our top priority. These measures have been carefully planned to ensure their safety and comfort."
