Pimpri-Chinchwad: A shocking update has come forward in the gruesome double murder case reported in Alandi on Thursday, where an elderly woman and a six-year-old child were murdered. The killer turned out to be the step-grandfather of the murdered child.
According to the police, the deceased have been identified as Mangal Shinde (70, Alandi) and Dhanashree Kedari (6, Alandi). Pimpri-Chinchwad Police have arrested Vinayak Tukaram Bhawari (31, Sangamner). Sangeeta Dattatraya Kedari (41, Alandi) has complained to Alandi Police Station (under the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissionerate).
Police Inspector Bhima Narke, in charge of the Alandi Police Station, told the media, “The complainant Sangeeta Kedari’s husband and son were dead. Her son died around five years ago, and her daughter-in-law left her, too. She was living with her six-year-old granddaughter in the Kelgaon area near Alandi.”
Police further stated that the complainant, Kedari, worked as a housekeeping staff member at a hospital and would often work night shifts. Whenever she was away, her neighbour, the deceased Mangal Shinde, would look after Dhanashree Kedari. Mangal Shinde used to live alone, police said.
According to the police, complainant Sangeeta Kedari left on Wednesday night for her night shift at the hospital. She came back on Thursday morning to find her granddaughter and the caretaking neighbour dead. Alandi Police came to the spot and registered a case against an unknown accused on Thursday.
Murder Due To Past Animosity...
With the help of technical investigation and interrogation of the neighbour, the police suspected Vinayak Bhawari as the prime suspect. Earlier angles related to housebreaking and theft were suspected too, but after initial investigations, police realised the killer was acquainted with the victims.

Vinayak Bhawari was detained from the Ale Phata area by the Alandi Police Station’s Detection Branch (DB). He confessed to the crime, saying he murdered Mangal Shinde due to past animosity.
‘She Was An Obstacle In Our Relationship’
Police revealed that the complainant, Sangeeta Kedari, and the accused, Vinayak Bhawari, were married two years ago. A few days after the marriage, Kedari suspected that Vinayak was having an extramarital affair. As a result, constant disputes arose between them. Due to this, Kedari had asked the accused to leave the house.
Police further said that since he was constantly trying to return home, Kedari was telling him to “give it in writing to the court that he would not live with the other woman.” Meanwhile, Vinayak suspected that the neighbour, Mangal Shinde, was instigating Kedari to say these things and was turning her against him. He told the police that he thought she was an obstacle in their relationship. On Wednesday, Kedari and Vinayak were fighting over the phone throughout the day.
Police sources said that out of that anger, he hatched a plot to kill Mangal Shinde and killed her in the wee hours of Thursday. After that, he murdered Dhanashree by placing a pillow over her face and suffocating her. After the incident came to light, Kedari first called Vinayak and summoned him home for help. However, he was avoiding coming. Also, he was speaking with Kedari via WhatsApp calls. Therefore, the police grew suspicious of him, and the police arrested him.
PI Narke revealed that the accused would soon be produced in court.
