Pune: No Relief For Sinhagad Road Residents From Traffic As Flyover Opening Delayed Due To Incomplete Work

Residents of Sinhagad Road will have no relief from traffic, as the flyovers opening on the road has been delayed due to incomplete work.

Pune's longest flyover, stretching 2,120 meters (about 2 km) from Vitthalwadi to Funtime, was scheduled to open by March-end. Now, commuters will have to wait until April-end.

Another 1,540-meter (1.5 km) flyover from Goyalganga Chowk to Prakash Inamdar Chowk, originally slated for operation by May-end, is now pushed until June-end.

These two flyovers were expected to provide relief from heavy traffic between Rajaram Bridge and the Pune-Bengaluru Highway. However, now residents will have to wait longer as the work on these flyovers is still incomplete.

Traffic congestion on Sinhagad Road

In 2024, the Rajaram Bridge Chowk flyover was inaugurated before the Lok Sabha elections and provided much-needed relief. The Sinhagad Road area has seen huge development in recent times, but the traffic has also increased along with the development. To address the issue, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) launched the flyover project.

At present, travelers spend at least 15-20 minutes in traffic snarls near the construction sites. After opening of these two flyovers, residents from Dhayri to Swargate and vice versa will have a smoother journey. The areas where these flyovers are planned have several intersections that cause traffic jams, and the flyovers will eliminate these obstacles on the road.

Meanwhile, the stretch of Sinhagad Road between Parvati Bridge and Dandekar Pool has become a nightmare for commuters and local residents. The absence of barricades, reflectors, speed breakers, and indicator symbols has turned this crucial roadway into a hotspot for traffic jams and accidents and residents have been raising their voices.
