Pune: A 17-year-old boy and his 41-year-old mother were found dead inside their house in Dada Patil Nagar, Tandulwadi, Baramati, on Friday morning, leaving police to investigate the circumstances surrounding their deaths.

The deceased have been identified as Vivek Vijay Gavade (17) and his mother Rama Vijay Gavade (41). According to police, Vivek was found hanging from a metal angle with a cotton rope. Rama was found lying near a window with a dark mark around her neck. The mark has raised questions over whether her death was a suicide or involved foul play.

The incident came to light at around 11 am on Friday. Police said Rama’s husband, Vijay Ramdas Gavade, works at a company in the Baramati MIDC area. He had left home for work on Thursday night. When Vijay returned home on Friday morning, he found the door locked. He called out to his wife and son but received no response.

He then called his neighbour, Suraj Bhimrao Shinde. The two opened the door and found Vivek hanging inside the house. They then found Rama lying on her back near a window. She did not respond when they tried to wake her. A dark mark was also noticed around her neck. The family informed relatives and the police following the discovery.

Both Vivek and Rama were taken to Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Government Medical College and General Hospital in Baramati. Doctors examined them and declared them dead. The exact circumstances of the deaths are not yet clear. While Vivek appeared to have died by suicide, the mark around Rama’s neck has raised suspicion.

Police are awaiting the medical and post-mortem reports to establish the exact cause of death and determine whether there was any foul play. Baramati Taluka police have registered the incident and started an investigation. Police are questioning family members and local residents to establish what happened inside the house.

The Gavade family is originally from Karhavagaj. The deaths of the mother and son have left the family devastated and shocked residents in the area.
