With approvals in place for the extension of Pune Metro's network from PCMC to Nigdi and Swargate to Katraj, construction work on the PCMC-Nigdi stretch is already progressing rapidly. The tender process for appointing a contractor for the Swargate-Katraj corridor is also expected to be completed shortly. To support operations on these two upcoming routes, Pune Metro will require 12 new metro train sets, each consisting of three coaches.
Pune Metro has placed the purchase order for these 12 train sets with Titagarh Rail Systems Limited and Titagarh Firema. These new train sets will be manufactured entirely under the 'Make in India' initiative and, like the existing rakes, will be constructed with aluminium. The total cost of the procurement is ₹430.53 crore. The delivery of these trains will take place in phases over the next 30 months.

The newly ordered train sets will be identical to the ones currently in service. They will be fully air-conditioned, equipped with automatic doors, and feature automated announcements and display systems. With the addition of these 12 new trains, Pune Metro’s total fleet size will increase to 46 trains (34 existing + 12 new).
On this occasion, the Managing Director of Maha Metro, Shravan Hardikar, stated, "Maha Metro has placed an order for 12 new trains for the extended PCMC–Nigdi corridor of Pune Metro. This will ensure that as soon as the construction of the extended routes is completed, train services can begin without delay. This will significantly benefit commuters on the PCMC–Nigdi stretch."
