Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has approved renovation of the mayor’s official bungalow after it remained unused for nearly four years. The work will be carried out at a cost of Rs 45.91 lakh.

The bungalow is located on Shirole Road in Shivajinagar. It has not been used as a residence for several years, as most mayors prefer to stay in their own homes. The space is mainly used for official meetings and hosting guests.

The bungalow has remained completely unused since 2022. During this period, there was no elected civic body in place. The city did not have a mayor after civic elections were delayed due to a Supreme Court case over seat reservations.

According to the civic proposal cleared by the standing committee, the renovation will include painting, polishing, and repair of furniture. A new set of furniture will also be purchased. Work will also be done on the outer structure, including the roof and garden area.

Officials said the renovation is needed as the building has not been maintained for years. Once ready, the bungalow will be used to host dignitaries and official guests. A civic officer said a well-maintained official residence will create a positive image of the city.

The bungalow is a single-storey structure with a hall, dining area, and kitchen on the ground floor. Bedrooms and restrooms are located on the upper floor.

After the return of elected representatives, there has been a push to upgrade official spaces. The PMC had earlier repaired the general body hall, which was also shut for four years. The civic body has also decided to buy new official vehicles for its office-bearers.
