Pune: A major fire broke out on Tuesday afternoon at Kale and Sons godown located opposite Oswal Hospital near Upper Depot in Bibwewadi. The fire department immediately rushed fire engines to the spot after the control room received information about the blaze at around 1:23 pm.

After reaching the spot, firefighters saw that the fire had taken a massive form. Since the area is densely populated, firefighters immediately began spraying water from all four sides and ensured that no one was trapped or injured in the fire.

Officials said the godown, spread across nearly 8,000 square feet, contained a large stock of mandap decoration material. Carpets, cloth and other decorative items were heavily damaged in the fire. One four-wheeler tempo and seven two-wheelers parked nearby were also destroyed in the blaze.

No injuries or casualties were reported in the incident. Due to the timely efforts of the Fire Brigade, a major disaster was avoided. Local residents, police personnel and MSEDCL officials also assisted during the operation.

A total of seven fire engines, three water tankers and 11 additional tankers from the Pune Municipal Corporation were deployed at the spot. One fire engine from the Pune Cantonment Fire Brigade also joined the firefighting operation.

The rescue operation was carried out under the guidance of Chief Fire Officer Devendra Potphode. Fire officers Vijay Bhilare, Sameer Sheikh, Sunil Naik Navre, Kailas Shinde and nearly 50 firefighters played a major role in controlling the blaze.

Chief Fire Officer Devendra Potphode said that after receiving continuous emergency calls from citizens and seeing the seriousness of the fire, additional fire vehicles were immediately rushed to the spot.
