Jalgaon: A major tragedy was averted in Kannad Ghat in Chalisgaon taluka on Sunday morning after an ST bus travelling from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar to Surat lost control and came to a stop against a roadside safety barrier.

The bus was carrying 59 passengers when the driver reportedly faced a sudden problem with the steering system. The vehicle moved towards the edge of the road and was stopped only after getting caught against the barrier. The barrier prevented the bus from plunging into the deep gorge.

The incident triggered panic among the passengers. Some passengers reportedly tried to get out through the windows as the bus remained dangerously close to the edge. All 59 passengers were eventually evacuated safely.

Four passengers suffered minor injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Their condition is reported to be stable.

Police reached the spot soon after receiving information about the incident and began an investigation. Officials are checking whether the steering rod broke or whether the steering mechanism malfunctioned, leading to the driver losing control of the bus.

The incident could have resulted in a major loss of life, but the roadside barrier helped stop the bus and prevented it from falling into the gorge.
