The Ulhasnagar police have arrested three individuals for allegedly attacking a sanitation worker employed by the Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation with a sharp weapon, in what appears to be a fallout of an old enmity. The brutal attack, which involved a group of seven to eight assailants, occurred on Monday afternoon in Ulhasnagar.
The arrested suspects have been identified as Ajay Bharudkar, Vikaraht Godbole, and Gautam Hatkar. A manhunt has been launched to nab the remaining accomplices. The victim has been identified as Pawan Dokholia, a resident of the Bhaiyasaheb Ambedkar Nagar area of Ulhasnagar.
The incident took place when Dokholia was on his way to work after lunch. He was ambushed by the group, who attacked him with sharp weapons, inflicting serious head injuries.
Following the attack, the assailants fled the scene. Locals who witnessed the incident immediately informed Dokholia’s family and rushed him to Central Hospital in Ulhasnagar, where he is currently undergoing treatment.
An FIR has been registered against the accused under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The three arrested individuals were produced before a court and have been remanded to police custody for further investigation.
Vishnu Tamhane, Senior Police Inspector at Ulhasnagar Police Station, said, “We have arrested three assailants, while the others are still at large. Preliminary investigation suggests the motive was an old enmity. A dedicated team has been formed to apprehend the remaining accused soon.”
