A piece of wall plaster of the male ward collapsed on the second floor of Kalyan-Dombivali Municipal Corporation (KDMC) Rukmanibai Hospital on Saturday at around 5:30 pm. Fortunately, no one was injured during the incident as the bed on which the plaster fell was vacant.

The male ward was later vacated quickly and the patients were shifted to a different ward.

A patient who witnessed the incident at the hospital said that no one was receiving treatment in the bed when the plaster collapsed, otherwise a major accident would have taken place.

Ashok Bhoir, president of the disability development association who was at the hospital for treatment said, "The Rukmanibai Hospital of KDMC is in a bad condition due to the untimely maintenance and repairs. Also, the plasters on the walls are damaged. On Saturday, suddenly the plaster fell on a bed but fortunately, no one was injured. It is really a sad affair. If someone was taking treatment on the bed, then the patient would have been seriously injured."

Bhoir further added, "Many patients who come to Rukmanibai Hospital for treatment after seeing the hospital's condition request the officials and doctors there to take care of the hospital. If the hospital's ill-fated condition is not being addressed, then big accidents can take place in the near future."

Dr Sandeep Pagare, chief medical officer, Rukmanibai Hospital said, "As from last few days it is raining heavily so only a small part of plaster fell on the bed. It fell on the bed where there was no patient. Someone associated with some political outfit who was taking treatment on the other bed clicked the picture and also shot a video of the incident and circulated it for their personal benefit. No patient or staff have been hurt anywhere. We have already vacated the ward and sealed it in view of no untoward incidence."

"Work is going on in adjacent wards and some wards are done with the plastering and painting. The construction department has been informed about the situation in the hospital and soon maintenance work will be initiated," added Pagare.
