Thane: Two college students drown in Ambe river in Ambernath
Around 12 college friends from Dombivali went on a picnic to Malanggad Fort in Ambernath.

Thane: A rainy day picnic ended in a tragedy on Monday for two college students from Dombivli, Nikhil Kanojia and Ankit Jaiswal, both aged 17, when they drowned in the Ambe river at Ambarnath, as they tried to rescue a friend who had gone for a swim in the river but appeared to be drowning. The incident took place on Monday, informed police officials from the Hill Line police station.
Eventually, the student who was drowning was rescued by disaster management and fire brigade officers. The deceased were part of a group of 12 friends from Dombivli who had gone on a picnic to Malanggad Fort in Ambarnath.
Senior Police Inspector Madhukar Kad, Hill Line police station, said, “Two of the 12 students went for a swim in the Ambe river near Malanggad Fort in Ambarnath. One of them started drowning and two other students from the group jumped into the river to save him but they themselves drowned.”
Kad further added, “The student who was drowning was later rescued by the disaster management and fire brigade officers. The two who drowned have been identified as Nikhil Kanojia and Ankit Jaiswal, both 17 and studying at a college in Dombivli. We have registered an accidental death report (ADR) in the case.”
