Thane, August 7, 2026: In a major legal development, the Thane Sessions Court has granted anticipatory bail to senior Shiv Sena (UBT) leader and former Member of Parliament Vinayak Raut, his son Gitesh Raut, and four other family members in connection with a high-profile domestic harassment case filed by his daughter-in-law, Girija Raut.
The relief order was pronounced by Additional Sessions Judge S. P. Agrawal, providing pre-arrest bail protection to the accused family members.
Case Background & Allegations
The case originates from an FIR registered at the Kapurbawdi Police Station in Thane based on a complaint lodged by Girija Raut, who currently resides in the Ghodbunder Road area of Thane.
The complaint names seven individuals in total, including Vinayak Raut, his son Gitesh Raut, his wife Shyamal Raut, relative Aba Raut, Harishchandra Ghadi, and two local occultists/faith healers (Firoz Sheikh and Qazi Baba).
Charges were invoked under relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code for domestic violence, mental and physical cruelty, cheating, as well as provisions under the Anti-Superstition and Black Magic Act.
In her complaint and subsequent media interactions, Girija Raut alleged:
Misrepresentation & Cheating
Prior to her marriage to Gitesh Raut in December 2017, the family claimed ownership of a bungalow in Vakola, Mumbai. However, after the wedding, she was allegedly taken to reside in a slum tenement.
Cruelty & Financial Control
She alleged seven years of physical and emotional harassment, financial deprivation, and forced employment restrictions within a family-owned transit company.
Occult Practices
She alleged being subjected to unscientific, superstitious rituals (“aghori” practices) and forced medication across multiple years.
Defence Arguments & Counter-Claims
Former MP Vinayak Raut has strongly refuted all charges, terming the allegations completely fabricated and intended to damage his public standing.
Presenting his defence, Raut stated:
Ongoing Matrimonial Dispute
Gitesh and Girija have lived separately for over three years, and formal divorce proceedings are currently pending before the court.
Extortion Allegations
Raut claimed the allegations emerged only after financial settlement demands were unmet. According to him, the complainant had demanded Rs 10 crore in compensation, a monthly allowance of Rs 5 lakh, a three-room apartment, and a vehicle.
Denial Of Black Magic Claims
The family categorically rejected allegations of practising occult rituals or subjecting anyone to superstitious remedies.
