Thane: A 56-year-old sub-inspector working with the Kalyan railway police station was allegedly killed by Railway Police Force (RPF) constable over stopping his increment.

The Kolsewadi police station in Kalyan arrested the constable on Thursday, February 9 and registered a case of murder against him, informed the police officer from Kolsewadi police station.

As per the police officials from Kolsewadi police station, the constable killed the sub-inspector because he halted his increment for the last two years.

Mahendra Deshmukh, senior police inspector, Kolsewadi police station said, " The accused RPF constable Pankaj Yadav (40) and the victim RPF sub-inspector Basavraj Garg (56) had a major fight two years back and since then there has been bad blood between them. Also, Garg was a reader to senior police officers, and he had used his position to institute an inquiry against Yadav and further managed to reduce Yadav's salary."

Deshmukh added, "Garg managed to reduce Yadav's salary on disciplinary grounds to the extent that he only got basic pay. The accused constable Yadav was very upset about the fact that his salary was not increasing even after putting in a lot of effort. Yadav knowing that it was Garg's fault on Wednesday, February 8 at around 8:30pm confronted him at RPF headquarters in Kalyan. Both Garg and Yadav got into a fight and the accused hit Garg on his head with a bamboo stick several times and fled from the spot. Garg was rushed to a local hospital in Kalyan where he passed away on Thursday, February 9 in the morning. We arrested the accused RPF constable Pankaj Yadav from Pen in Raigad district of Maharashtra within four hours of the incident. We will produce him before the court to seek his custody."
