Thane News: Ulhasnagar Crime Branch Busts MD Powder Drug Racket, Arrests 5 Including Nigerian National

Thane: The Ulhasnagar Crime Branch has arrested five individuals, including a woman and a Nigerian national, for allegedly possessing 131 grams of MD (mephedrone) powder worth over ₹26 lakh.

The accused have been identified as Naushin Sheikh, a resident of Mumbra; Imran Khan; Haidar Ali Sheikh; Siraj Raja Sheikh; and Chuks Ogbonna Ajah, a Nigerian national. Except for Sheikh, the other four are residents of Nalasopara.
Woman Caught in Sting Operation at Newali Naka, Reveals Drug Source
According to police, based on a tip-off received on August 4, a woman was expected to arrive at Newali Naka in Katai to sell MD powder. Acting on the information, senior officers laid a trap at the location and apprehended the woman. Upon searching her, officials recovered 71 grams of MD powder.
During preliminary questioning, she confessed that she intended to sell the drugs in the city. An FIR was registered against her under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Further Raids Lead to Arrest of Four More, Seizure of Additional 60 Grams
During her interrogation, she revealed that she had procured the contraband from Imran Khan. Police then arrested Khan, who disclosed the involvement of three others — Haidar Ali Sheikh, Siraj Sheikh, and Chuks Ogbonna Ajah. A subsequent raid led to their arrest and the recovery of an additional 60 grams of MD powder.

In total, 131 grams of the banned substance were seized, with an estimated street value of over ₹26 lakh. All five accused were produced in court and have been remanded to police custody until August 11 for further investigation.
