The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested a traffic police constable for accepting a bribe of Rs 500 from a complainant. The accused, identified as 41-year-old Pravin Gulab Gopale, is posted at the Kalyan traffic division.
According to ACB sources, the complainant, a transport business owner in Kalyan, frequently travels between Kalyan and Shahad. Gopale allegedly demanded Rs 700 from the complainant to avoid obstruction during his travels. He threatened that action would be taken at every intersection of the city if the money was not paid.
On February 4, the complainant approached the Thane ACB office to report the incident. Following a verification process, Gopale agreed to accept a monthly bribe of Rs 500 to refrain from obstructing the complainant's vehicle. The ACB team set up a trap at Shahad Chowki, where they caught Gopale red-handed while receiving the bribe.
The ACB officials stated that investigations are ongoing. Gopale has been arrested and produced in court.
