Thane Crime: 2 Arrested With Over 2 Kg MD Powder Worth ₹3.97 Crore In Separate Anti-Narcotic Raids
The Anti-Narcotic Cell of the Thane Police and the Thane Crime Branch have arrested two individuals in separate cases and seized over 2 kilograms of MD (mephedrone) powder, collectively valued at ₹3.97 crore, in Thane.

Thane: The Anti-Narcotic Cell of the Thane Police and the Thane Crime Branch have arrested two individuals in separate cases and seized over 2 kilograms of MD (mephedrone) powder, collectively valued at ₹3.97 crore, in Thane.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Irfan Sheikh, a delivery boy from Panvel, and Shahrukh Mewasi alias Rizwan (28), a laborer from Madhya Pradesh.

In the first incident, acting on a tip-off from a local informer, police laid a trap on July 27 near Shilphata-Diva Road, where Sheikh was expected to deliver drugs. He was intercepted, and upon checking, the police found 1.533 kilograms of MD powder over Rs 3 crore in his possession.
FIRs Filed Under NDPS Act at Shil Daighar Police Stations
During interrogation, Sheikh admitted that the drugs were meant to be sold in the city. He was brought to the police station, and an FIR was registered against him under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Shil Daighar Police Station. He was later produced in court and remanded in police custody till July 31 for further investigation.
662 Grams of MD Powder Seized From MP-Based Labourer in Thane
In the second case, on July 24, the police received reliable information that a man was coming to Thane to sell MD powder. A trap was laid at Kharegaon Toll Plaza on the Mumbra-Thane Road. The accused, Shahrukh Mewasi, was intercepted in his car, and 662 grams of MD powder—valued at approximately ₹92 lakh—was recovered from him.
FIRs Filed Under NDPS Act at Kalwa Police Stations
An FIR was registered against Mewasi at Kalwa Police Station under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act. He was produced in court and remanded in police custody until July 30.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Amarsingh Jadhav said, “Our team is investigating the source of the contraband and identifying the intended recipients. Further investigation is underway.”
