Thane: The Thane Collector Dr. Shrikrishnanath Panchal has given a 15-day timeline to concerned agencies to repair the severely damaged Ghodbunder Highway, one of the most congested and deteriorated road sections in the district.

This directive came after strong criticism from Deputy Chief Minister and Thane Guardian Minister Eknath Shinde regarding the poor condition of roads, which have been causing major traffic jams on highways and key arterial routes, as reported by The Times of India.

Following this, Panchal personally inspected the Gaimukh Ghat stretch of Ghodbunder Highway late Monday and directed immediate steps to be taken to alleviate traffic congestion.

A subsequent meeting was held with senior officials from the Regional Transport Department, Mira-Bhayandar and Thane Traffic Police, and other relevant departments to develop a comprehensive action plan.

As part of the plan, the ghat section will be partially closed starting Friday, allowing repair work to proceed in stages. The repairs must be completed within 15 days, despite challenges posed by the monsoon, heavy traffic, and road safety requirements. Panchal emphasised to the officials, as reported.

To ensure smooth progress and minimise disruption for commuters, a joint coordination team will be established. This team will include representatives from Mira-Bhayandar and Thane Municipal Corporations, the Public Works Department, and the Traffic Police, ensuring continuous communication and efficient execution during the repair period.
