Mumbai: Shiv Sena MP Ravindra Waikar has raised concerns over the lack of basic infrastructure in lower courts across the country, urging the government to allocate a special financial package for their modernisation. He highlighted the issue during the Zero Hour in the Lok Sabha.

MP Highlights Severe Shortages of Essential Facilities in District Courts

Waikar pointed out that district and subordinate courts are facing severe shortages of essential facilities, causing inconvenience to both court staff and the large number of citizens who visit daily in search of justice. He noted that inadequate seating arrangements force litigants, witnesses, and elderly persons to stand for long hours.

The MP also flagged the absence of clean toilets, safe drinking water, and accessibility features such as ramps for persons with disabilities. He stressed the need for improved safety measures, including CCTV surveillance and fire protection systems, as well as better working conditions for lawyers through proper chambers and modern computer facilities.

Waikar Recommends Air Conditioning, Computers, and Solar Power for Rural Courts

Calling for urgent reforms, Waikar recommended prioritising the installation of air conditioning, computers, and clean sanitation facilities. He also suggested setting up solar energy systems in rural courts to ensure uninterrupted and affordable power supply.

To strengthen digital infrastructure, he emphasised the need for high-speed internet and modern server rooms to effectively implement e-Courts and virtual hearings. Waikar said that improved infrastructure would enhance transparency, speed up judicial processes, and help reduce the burden of pending cases across the country.
