In a strong push for women's safety, the Shiv Sena Mahila Aghadi has demanded the immediate installation of CCTV cameras in all State Transport (ST) buses. A memorandum outlining this request was submitted to Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Monday. Responding swiftly, Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik has directed the transport department to take immediate action.
Recent incidents at Pune’s Swargate Bus Station have exposed several security concerns at State Transport depots. In response, the transport department has already begun implementing measures to prevent misconduct inside ST buses. Shiv Sena MLA Dr. Manisha Kayande emphasized that equipping buses with CCTV cameras would play a crucial role in preventing harassment, both during travel and at depots.
Along with surveillance systems, Shiv Sena has also called for the full-time deployment of security guards at bus depots and stations, as well as regular police patrols to ensure passenger safety. Dr. Kayande stressed the importance of maintaining public confidence in “Lal Pari” (the red ST buses), which serve as a lifeline for common citizens.
