Panvel, September 1, 2026: The Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) on Monday carried out an anti-encroachment drive against unauthorised businesses and handcart vendors operating in the Market Yard area.

The action was undertaken by Ward Committee ‘D’ on the directions of Municipal Commissioner Mangesh Chitale, with the civic administration stating that the encroachments were obstructing traffic movement and pedestrian access in the busy market area.

Handcarts Seized And Removed

During the drive, civic officials seized seven handcarts and other materials, while five additional handcarts were dismantled and removed from the area.

The operation was conducted under the supervision of Assistant Commissioner and Ward Officer Dr Rupali Mane. The anti-encroachment squad, ward office staff, Raigad security personnel and Maharashtra State Security Force (MSF) personnel participated in the drive. The action was led by Acting Superintendent Rajesh Dongre.

PMC Cites Traffic Concerns

According to the civic body, unauthorised businesses and handcarts in and around the Market Yard had resulted in encroachments, affecting the movement of vehicles as well as pedestrians.

The PMC said such drives would help ensure that public spaces remain accessible and that encroachments do not create traffic and safety-related problems in the area.
