Panvel Municipal Corporation Chief Orders Evacuation Of Dangerous Buildings, Flood Control Measures Ahead Of Monsoon 2025

Panvel: In a disaster management review meeting held on June 3, the Municipal Commissioner of Panvel Municipal Corporation issued several key directives to ensure effective monsoon preparedness and safeguard public safety.

A major focus was placed on inter-departmental coordination, with all concerned departments instructed to work in close cooperation throughout the monsoon season to minimize inconvenience to citizens.

To address structural safety concerns, the police department has been directed to assist in evacuating residents from C1-category dangerous buildings. Additionally, the power distribution department has been instructed to disconnect electricity supply to hazardous structures in CIDCO areas and to remove electric cables from stormwater drains to prevent short circuits and related hazards.

Preventing flooding remains a priority. In this regard, CIDCO authorities have been tasked with urgently clearing debris and illegal encroachments from the Gadhi River. In Kalamboli, the Sewage Treatment Plant must ensure that additional pumps are fully operational and repaired in anticipation of heavy rainfall.

Public safety at natural tourist spots also received attention. To prevent accidents during the rainy season, CIDCO and the police department have been directed to restrict unauthorized entry, particularly of youth, into the Pandavkada waterfall area by deploying adequate security.

Infrastructure preparedness was emphasized, with MSRTC officials instructed to conduct structural audits of all hoardings at bus stands to prevent collapse during storms. Potholes in and around bus stands and on highways must be promptly repaired, and proper drainage systems established to avoid waterlogging.

Attention was also directed toward school safety. Zilla Parishad schools found to be in poor condition must be repaired before the onset of the monsoon. Buildings deemed dangerous are to be demolished by the construction department to prevent mishaps.

Lastly, the health department has been instructed to ensure the availability of adequate medicine stock and medical services to respond effectively to any outbreak of seasonal diseases during the monsoon period.
