Mumbai: In a significant milestone towards the development of the Panvel-Karjat suburban corridor, the first End Unloading Rake (EUR Rake) entered the section from Mahope station at 05:00 AM on Saturday.
The rake is carrying 260-meter-long, 60 Kg rail panels sourced from SAIL, which will be used for the installation of long Welded Rail Track in the corridor.
Previously, the track linking work between UP-PKSC (Panvel-Karjat Suburban Corridor) Mahope-Chikhale was completed using released rails temporarily sourced from Central Railway. Now, with the arrival of the specially designed EUR Rakes, the process of laying the new rail track will commence immediately.
The EUR rake is transporting rails for the 7.8 km stretch between Mahope and Chikhale stations. Once this section is completed, further rail linking will take place at Karjat and Chowk station areas, which are expected to receive rail rakes soon.
This development marks a crucial step in enhancing connectivity and capacity on the Panvel-Karjat corridor, benefiting suburban passengers and freight operations alike.
