Firecracker factory blast in Palghar’s Wada kills one worker, leaves several critically injured | IANS

Palghar, Maharashtra, April 21: A major explosion occurred around 12:00 noon on Monday in Konsai village of Wada taluka in Palghar district, claiming the lives of two workers and leaving several others seriously injured.

Blast at firecracker unit

According to preliminary information, the blast took place in a makeshift unit operating out of an old farmhouse where a tin shed had been erected. The unit was reportedly engaged in manufacturing firecrackers, including sutli bombs.

Victims identified

The deceased have been identified as Bhavesh Dilip Vavare, a resident of Jamghar, and Monika Sachin Padvale (30) from Palsai.

Injuries and treatment

Four to five workers sustained serious injuries in the incident. The injured were initially rushed to Wada Rural Hospital, where they are currently undergoing treatment. Three of the injured have been shifted to Gandhe Hospital, while one critically injured worker has been referred to Bhiwandi Rural Hospital.

The injured have been identified as Monika Mahendra Jadhav (Konsai, 30), Jagruti Jagdish Gavte (Jamghar, 27), Pratibha Pratap Pawar (Konsai, 30) and Monika Mohan Vardi (Konsai, 25 years).

Rescue operations and investigation

Officials from the fire brigade, along with the Tehsildar, Chief Officer, and police personnel, rushed to the spot immediately after the incident and initiated rescue and control operations.

Preliminary inquiry suggests that the unit had been operational only recently, having started around April 10. It was allegedly being run by Narendra Singh, a resident of Kudus, along with his associate Yadav.

Raw materials for firecracker manufacturing were being supplied to the unit, and around 32 daily-wage workers from nearby villages including Jamghar, Konsai, Palsai, and Alman were employed and being trained on-site.
