NIA gets custody of Amravati accused involved in chemist murder case

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken over custody of all the accused involved in the murder of Amravati based chemist Umesh Kolhe, officials informed on Monday.
"Custody of all the accused have been taken over by the NIA. I cannot comment on the case now that the investigations have been taken over by the NIA," said police inspector Nilima Araj of Kotwali Police Station in Amravati.
According to the Amravati police, all the seven accused were granted four days transit remand on Monday after they were produced before the Amravati court. The accused are likely to be produced before the NIA's Mumbai court on or before July 8.
Amravati Police claimed they had stumbled upon the links between the social media posts supporting Nupur Sharma and Umesh's murder during the investigation and didn't suppress the case as alleged, police commissioner Arti Singh said on Monday.
She also said that police didn't disclose the information earlier given the "very sensitive" nature of the murder case and to avoid any untoward incident.
The Amravati police had so far arrested seven persons - Muddasar Ahmad (22), Shahrukh Pathan (25), Abdul Taufiq (24) Shoaib Khan (22), Atib Rashid (22) and Yusuf Khan (32) and alleged mastermind Shaikh Irfan Shaikh Rahim in the case.
The police are on the lookout for one more suspect Shamim Ahmed in connection with the case.
On June 21, between 10 pm and 10:30 pm on June 21, Umesh was allegedly attacked with a knife by a group of three men. Umesh Later died during treatment at hospital. Later the probe had revealed that crime has been committed with regards to the post related to Nupur Sharma. Kolhe had supported a post on social media in support of Nupur Sharma.
