The state government has approved the 45 ropeways to be completed by National Highways Logistics Management Ltd (NHLML). This will help complete the ropeways early, including some important locations such as Raigad Fort, Matheran, Alibaug Chowpatty to Alibaug Fort and Elephanta Caves.
The work allocation is a part of the Central government's decision to boost tourism and ease traffic congestion. The state signed an MoU with the Central agency last year in February but the final go-ahead was pending which came after the state cabinet decision last month.
This will accelerate the project work at some of the popular spots such as the Kunkeshwar Temple, Alibaug, Sinhagad Fort, Pune, Mahabaleshwar and Urmodi dam to Kaas Pathar in Satara and Jejuri in Pune district.
Different state agencies, including PWD, MMRDA, MSRDC and local bodies, were expected to take up the job through professional agencies. But, now the state decision issued on Wednesday makes it clear that the task will be carried out by the NHLML. The state agencies will lease out the required land to the NHLML for a period of 30-year lease.
