Navi Mumbai News: Nerul School Ceiling Collapses Days After Opening; Shiv Sena Demands Contractor’s Blacklisting

A major safety concern has arisen over the newly constructed municipal school building in Sector 30, Nerul, after a portion of the classroom ceiling slab collapsed while students were present. In response to this alarming incident, Shiv Sena has formally demanded that the contractor responsible for the construction be immediately blacklisted.

The school building, constructed at a cost of ₹17.75 crore, reportedly showed signs of poor construction quality within just four days of the new academic year. On June 19, parts of the ceiling slab in a Grade 6 classroom fell suddenly while 36 students were inside.The class teacher reportedly suffered a minor head injury.

Following the incident, a complaint was submitted by Sena to the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC), accusing the contractor of endangering lives through substandard work. He has urged the civic authorities to not only blacklist the contractor but also launch a full technical audit of the building and hold negligent municipal officials accountable.

“Immediate blacklisting of the contractor is necessary to set an example and ensure no such negligence occurs in future civic projects,” said party worker and former NMMT Transport Committee member, Sameer Amin Bagwan Bagwan. He also pointed to several other flaws in the building, including cracks in structural beams, water leakage, a broken water tank on the terrace, and the absence of mandatory CCTV cameras and toilet signage.

The incident has caused concern among parents, teachers, and students, raising serious doubts about the safety of newly built public infrastructure.

The NMMC is yet to respond to the demand, even as public pressure mounts for strict punitive action against those responsible.
