Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation Sets New Record With ₹800 Crore Revenue

Navi Mumbai: The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has achieved a historic milestone by surpassing the Rs 800 crore revenue collection mark for the first time. All municipal departments successfully met their targets, with Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde expressing gratitude to citizens for their cooperation in tax payments.
"This is a remarkable achievement for NMMC, made possible by the active participation of our citizens and the relentless efforts of our staff," said Dr. Shinde. "This revenue will significantly contribute to enhancing civic amenities and infrastructure in our rapidly growing city."
According to NMMC, a total of Rs 826.12 crore was collected from property tax, Rs 105.93 crore from water supply charges, and Rs 381.90 crore from building permit fees for the fiscal year 2024-25.
Dr. Shinde acknowledged the role of responsible citizens in achieving this target and praised municipal staff for their dedicated efforts. "Our property tax department alone collected Rs 826.12 crore, including Rs 20.97 crore from the ‘Abhay Yojana,’ which provided a 50% waiver on overdue property tax penalties. Similarly, the water supply department collected Rs 105.93 crore, with many citizens benefiting from the same scheme."
The Town Planning Department generated Rs381.90 crore through building permits, primarily from redevelopment project approvals, while the Licensing Department contributed Rs14.60 crore in direct fees. Additionally, Rs 28.04 crore was collected from local body taxes, with significant contributions from other departments as well.
To facilitate smooth payments, NMMC introduced a new online property tax collection system and launched a dedicated mobile application. "We wanted to ensure that citizens could make their payments conveniently," said a NMMC officer. "Now, payments can be made through net banking, debit/credit cards, UPI, wallets, QR codes, and even in person at our civic service centers. The response from citizens has been overwhelmingly positive," the officer added.
As part of its enforcement measures, NMMC issued notices to property and water tax defaulters and disconnected water connections in some cases. To encourage voluntary compliance, the ‘Abhay Yojana’ was extended to water bill payments, and bill payment centers were kept open on holidays.
Looking ahead, NMMC plans to integrate the Bharat Bill Payment System (BBPS) into its online facilities, further streamlining the payment process. A single annual property tax bill will be introduced, allowing citizens to pay in installments, while water bills will also be made available online with multiple payment options.
